Yep. Some people in the comments are cheering because IJ goes down a lot? I've never had a problem but I only comment on SD. Supposedly they've been in talks with DW ptb and have a comm with layout set up, but are asking for 'input' on SD and No Scans...in tones that make it sound a very done deal.
I never did even figure out how to friend Neotoma's craft journal over there, and I don't remember my password, and I just don't have the energy to bother.
We can probably favorite place the journal, or someone said something about an LJ feed, so we can still look at the scans, just not comment on them. Which is half the fun...squeeing over something out of context, just plain weird, or starring a favorite obscure character....
Just read through the announcements on both no_scans and scans. And it makes me wonder if this new move to a more secluded site to further insulate itself and become more 'DMCA-proof', won't just end up dwindling it down out of existence?
Yeah, posting's already down from the move to IJ. There are still some people who missed the move TO IJ. And apparently dreamwidth doesn't have any image-hosting of it's own...so I guess that lets out people who posted from their lj photo album instead of photobucket or whatever.
The two reasons they're citing for the move, though...
I've never had any trouble with IJ being down, and I'm too cynical to believe that DW adds any extra protection from TPTB getting cranky about fair use. It's a business. CYA is standard.
You know, my own cynical side was also wondering (while reading through the move explanation) whether or not there might've been some behind the scenes 'nudging' on IJ's part asking s_d to move it along somewhere else, so they won't have to deal these kinds of fair use arguments inherent to the nature of how s_d operates? Particularly, if there have been some recent inquiries from those affected PTB?
Somewhere in comments in one of the posts they said something about IJ not responding to questions, while DW was supportively working with them....
That's an explanation for the move I'd have accepted, though. As it is now, eh. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I wouldn't mind mirroring the comm over on dw, but I have no intention of following it.
