Danny had stopped by the apartment after class to shower before he went to meet Don for dinner. He was in the middle of pulling on his briefs when the phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Hi, may I please speak with Danny? It's Professor Hetten."
"What's up, Professor?"
"I just got a call from a music promoter; he sat in during the last week of class. He wants to talk to you about a deal."
Danny was shocked, as he didn't think he was that good. When he regained the ability to speak, he said, "You did make clear that I'm not studying music, right?"
"Yep, he has a group whose lead guitarist is five months pregnant, can’t hold the instrument right anymore. He liked the Spanish-style composition you did, rather than simple strumming."
"Umm...I need to think about it. My money's pretty tight since I'm doing summer session. Basically any time I have, I need to be earning money."
"He'll be around talking with one of the drummers that can sing on Tuesday at noon-ish. Come by my office and you can get more information."
"Sure."
When Danny arrived at Hetten's office, he was ready to say no, but the guy said the band had 3 club dates set up already in the next 2 weeks, he'd get 150 dollars for each. He agreed to a six-week trial, as he'd get almost as much in the next week as he would in a paycheck from the restaurant.
It was a nice run, but he really didn't get along with the singer and the bassist. He took his 800 dollars and new guitar, leaving it at that. He'd only had to switch shifts for 2 days, so he just went back to being a waiter. He contemplated selling the guitar, but decided to keep it, to sell on a rainy day.
When Don came to one of the club dates, he had thought the whole thing was really sexy, but he found Danny sexy even without the rocker look, so he wasn't that disappointed that Danny didn't continue. Besides, the fangirls he'd somehow acquired in 4 weeks were really quite creepy.
