Now I Remember Why I Bothered

It's this kind of day that validates my decision to go back to school:

  • Dissecting brains

  • Running electrophoresis on DNA

  • Pasting electrodes on graduate students so I can measure scaring the crap out of them

Now if I can just get through the stupid Bio test on Friday and to Spring Break.  I will be in good shape.

Aren't those fun moments when you feel totally fulfilled and validated that you've made the time investment to continue your education? I have them every time I'm at FIDM and I realize that it's where I'm supposed to be.

I worked in a cancer research lab for a few weeks at UCLA when I was still an undergrad there and we were dissecting mice. Except, the mice had died so long ago that they were largely liquefied and kept in a giant freezer that smelled of rotting corpses. Going into that freezer seriously increased my lung capacity b/c I had to hold my breath every time :P Also it was close to impossible to get viable samples from LIQUEFIED MICE. But anyway, it was an interesting experience! LOL!

I can imagine. I had to deal with waterlogged decomps back at the Coroner's office. There were no words to describe the smell. It was the type of odor that seemed to stick with you for the rest of the day, like it burned itself into your nasal tissue.

Can't say I miss that part at all.

Yeah, doing a phobia experiment is a good excuse for that. :)
