I went to eat lunch with Crystal on Thursday--but I'm not sure where she got the impression I despise teh dollfies. I merely look upon them now with weary and placid acceptance. ;) ANYWAY. I finally saw tanlammy's lookalike Saint Aya for myself. It was...an unusual experience

Man, would've loved to have been there while Crystal lamented about Ace. 'Cause, you know, I so rarely get UM-related convo without you. ^^;
Whenever I look at Mefi's design in Gekiden, I keep thinking he has a moustache. It's that part where his mouth would be (I think it's usually yellow?) that has that criss-crossed netting design... I keep thinking of that as facial hair. xDDD
And I think Gekiden's artwork was cute in the early chapters, with those SD Ultras and stuff. Then it just got weird Sailormoon legs and big faces. ;_; Story-wise, though, all the fights, blood, death and stuff are nicely hidden (particularly during the tournaments) under a rather friendly atmosphere.

I still have to convince people that the Ultras DO have mouths, THOSE are not moustaches, THAT is a chin cleft etc. Even so, I love volume 2. The art is consistent, and the proportional balance ain't half bad. Volumes 4-6 make me cringe a little, and the end...yeah, Sailormoon legs.
I guess I've read it for too long, because to me Mazaron is evil on two legs with loghat Kelate (because I used to read him out loud) and the Yapool while he's plotting just counts as sneakiest in-books bastard ever. 'Cute' doesn't really come up until we discuss UM's fluffy, innocent side. Or Taro. Pre-volume 6 Taro is cuteness on legs with horns. X3

Taro is too damn adorable in the manga (and the blue eyes! aww!). The part where he takes Black Pigeon on as a pet (or BP adopts him...) is absolutely precious! I actually kinda miss that version, he seems to have become more "bad ass" after that.
I only think the Gekiden (and to an extent, UNM) Ultras look "cute", though. That word doesn't exactly pop up when watching the TV series. (With Ace's being one of the more violent series, I've imagined random violent reactions from him when someone calls him "cute". XDDD)
...I need to find UM icons that aren't of them sleeping.
