Actually Bush did mention McCain near the end of the debate tonight Josh. He thanked Kerry for bringing his name into the fray...and correctly pointed out that McCain has endorsed him. Insta polls mean nothing to me quite frankly...and for the record...I think Bush won this debate handily. This was the first time I actually sensed Kerry on the defensive. Still, given the baseball playoffs and other distractions...I doubt the debate itself will have any major impact on the race. Reasonable folks can disagree when it comes to politics...and so we do :-). Happy Birthday by the way :-).
I don't trust insta-polls either, but the Gallup poll of some 500 people after the debate gave the win to Kerry with 52%, Bush at 39%. And I can't give the win to Bush simply because he will not answer a question directly.
Really Josh, both candidates could be rightly accused of not answering certain questions directly over the course of the three debates. Dinner on me if Senator Kerry and Senator "Gone" win on November 2nd.
I'll post this here rather than via email, since you're more likely to see it here.
First, scheduling glitches have prevented me seeing any of the debates except part of the VP one (and that was close-captioned). Anyway, I think your analyses are very good, and also very well written. Do you keep notes? I couldn't keep all that stuff straight in my head.
But actually, I was just going to mention that I was talking to one of the bell boys at Brasstown Valley last night, and he said that he'd voted for "Baby Bush" last time around, but certainly wasn't going to this time. The consensus seems to be that everyone who voted Democrat last time will vote that way this time --(Personally, I intend to be the yellowest dog in Georgia . . . )-- and that a lot of disgruntled Republicans and relatively sane Naderites will join their ranks. It remains to be seen, but I'm cautiously optimistic. Then again, I usually am.

I don't want to jinx it, but I will say, I'm very optimistic about Kerry in November.
P.S. Yes re: notes.
