i've currently got about $2300 in cold hard cash sitting in my closet. that's enough to buy an iMac. or a bunch of overpriced guitar pedals. or a quality theremin. or a sweeeeet bass amp, or an awesome 6 string bass. all of which i want. There really is no advantage these days to getting a Mac. In the old days, yes, Macs were the superior multi-media machine. But it's not so anymore.
I use a PC, with an M-Audio 1010LT and it works fine. My comupter isn't even that fast, but it works perfectly well with this 8 channel soundcard. And since it's PC, the card only cost about $300. Were it Mac, I'm sure I would've paid $1000 for the exact same thing.
And if parts need replacement or repair you can do it yourself. For much cheaper.
