Review of Mae show 2-24-07 @ UF

Feb 25, 2007 12:53

So yesterday Mae played at UF as part of our residence hall week celebration or something. They were so amazing!

So the opening band was from Orlando called Machlin? or something like that. They were okay. It seemed like they were going for the type of music that i would like, but it kinda fell flat on its face because 1) they seem inexperienced at the whole "live show" thing and 2) they are def not performers, at all, except for the bass player, he amused me greatly

teh pics:

we like blurry

So yeah, lost of blurry pics. I was experimenting with it and then it started flashing low batt. Just figured out now that the charger hasnt been plugged in for ever. wonderful. But yeah, we were such a lame crowd for these guys. I cant help but think it would have been a better performance if we werent all sitting stoically in our chairs observing them carefully like you a bug under a microscope. I seriously felt bad.

Next band up was Morningbell. The lead singer's voice struck me the wrong way from the beginning but it grew on me. I think it was solely because they were such a great "live band". They were so full energy, and so dorky and they just really had so much energy. I saw the lead singer after the show and i had to gush about how great their energ was to him. Seriously, I should have gotten a vid, because they were such great performers. And they were probably the dorkiest band I've ever seen, but i gotta give them props. It was a great way to pick up the energy before Mae.

didnt get many, I was saving my battery for Mae

So...Mae! Ok so were all sitting there, and then Dave comes out and tells us to move all the chairs, so we gladly do (although they were tied together so it was interesting project) and we form a giant mass of bodies. I ended up being stuck behind two tall guys, but luckily I could see Dave between them. there are no words to describe this show!!! Vocals were amazing! sound was amazing! crowd was still craptastic and it made me kinda sad, but jenn and i screamed anyway and danced and had fun. They played my absolute favorite song ("Suspension") first and it made me so ridiculously happy! unfortunately, my camera freaking died before the end, but I managed some pics and even a couple vids! The guitar tech had to come out a bunch of times because Dave blew his amp. yup. They also played a new song off their upcoming album. It was called "Telescopes" and was pretty amazing. We were actually their first show of the year so i think thats a pretty spiffy thing to brag about.

Photographic evidence:

dave was kinda sad in this pic, thats why it came out blurry. j/k

blurry Zach

he wouldnt stop moving around damnit!

hey look! dave snuck into my picture of some guy's ear! gosh, dave is such a cam whore

i like this one, even with the blurry

this one makes me lol

this would have been an awesome pic of the drummer except for the fact that he has a cymbol for a head :/ poor guy...

oh brittany is getting better with the cam!

or maybe not...

i think its better when i dont zoom like woah

probably the best one i took

I was hoping that they would come and hang out by their merch, because it was an uber small show, but we were herded out of there so fast! and i was contemplating looking for their tour bus and seeing if we could find them, but everyone else had left, so i figured we'd get in trouble if we actually did find it and were over there :/ Before they rushed us out of there we did get some merch. I got a jacket! its so cute! Its this green track-suit-looking-jacket with a robot on it and its kinda like fleece inside and it is amazing! I heart it. I would heart it more if I had gotten to meet Dave *sadface*

yup I'm wearing the jacket as we speak *snuggles into it*

close-up of the robot. isnt it adorable? this is so my new fave jacket.

and here's one of the vids I managed to get, and its of them performing "Skyline Drive"
