1) Qwest Communications, a 14-state telephone company west of the Mississippi River.
2) National
3) No. We use vendors and THEY may use temps, but we are a Union shop so we don't use temps.
4) Yes. We don't come in contact with the customer so as long as you can be heard clearly (or type clearly if you're in Ebusiness taking online Chats) they don't have a problem with personal appearance.
5)Tolerated. I can't imagine my supervisor coming along and saying, "You know, I think you should go get your nose pierced," but I could see her saying, "Wow, that's a nice looking tattoo! When did you get it?"
2) An international one, though smallish as they go. Branches in two locations right now.
3) Yes.
4) I don't know, because I don't have tattoos that show when I am dressed. I have some coworkers with visible tattoos, though, and it's never elicited comment.
5) Again, just don't know. I expect it would be tolerated.
6) I am, but I need to change it to "normal" before client briefings.
Hugs from Washington, DC, aka "Hollywood for Ugly People!"
3) I think so, but not for my "position" (graduate researcher/TA).
4) Yes.
5) Probably tolerated. Or viewed as your own choice... Academia is a very competitive and networky world, so I might choose to look more "traditional" if I'm going to a professional conference, etc. I'm probably going to have to take out my piercings eventually anyway to work with MRI machines.
1. Small sorta conservative medical office (one doctor. There used to be two but DrL retired).
2. Local but some of our patients live out of state. They come only a couple times a year.
3. No
4. I'm guessing there would be eyebrows raised but no one would say anything*. I don't have tattoos. I HAVE come it with henna tats on my arms/hands. I don't remember anyone commenting. I have multiple ear piercings.
5. Tolerated.
6. I've come in with various hair colors (*red*, purple, green). Again... raise eyebrows but I don't think anyone would say anything*.
* ok, we have a few really nosy patients. THEY might commnet but most patients/my boss would keep mum.
I have a small diamond in the left side of my nose. I wear it at all times - though when I was job hunting - I did take it out for a few interviews. It is so small that I forget that I have it. I used to have colored hair and enjoyed it very much. Now just dark brown which I find is the most versatile for me.
