Art Inebriation

I'm a bit inebriated right now...more on that story when I'm sober.  But atm,  I'm a bit put off on how everyone is complimenting me on my facebook about my posters.  I mean, on one hand I'm flattered that they think so highly of it...but at the same time, none of them are giving me advice on how to improve on further art projects.  Not to sound ( Read more... )

I imagine a lot of people aren't critiquing your posters, because it was something that the Alliance hired/asked you to do, and you did do a good job. They probably feel like critiquing them in that fashion to your face is rather awkward and ungrateful, especially since you did put a lot of work into them. Plus, they do fit the theme you set for them, which was Rent. So enjoy the praise!

Facebook is a good place to get publicity for the events themselves, but it is definitely not a place for art critiques. If that's what you're looking for, then dA and its like are where you want to head.

Unfortunately, dA seems to have taken a hit recently and it's a pain to actually get a critique from your own watchers XD. Apart from us of course, cos we're wonderful and all. Joking aside, you're probably better going to people who aren't involved with the events, or your art classmates or teacher and asking them for a critique and what you could make better.

I know what you mean, Mane. Well, I'm no artist, but I try writing every so often and I never really like what I do. People tell me that my stuff is good, but I don't think it is. I would much rather someone tell me what I could do to fix it than compliment it.

On the other hand, I'm usually among the people who just say "it's good." Sometimes it's because I don't want to insult, but more often it's because I don't know how to make it any better. Sure, it's not perfect, but I'm no artist and I have no idea what's wrong with it.

This isn't a very helpful comment, is it? =S Ah, whatever. By the way, you might want to check the Earthsong forum...

I completely agree with intergal.
problems aside, dA is always going to be a better bet for critique, since facebook is largely people who wouldn't know what to say even if you did ask for constructive criticism.
(I really love them though--even though that's exactly what you DON'T want people to tell you.)
