A number of people I know seem to enjoy using an exercise ball instead of a chair. Of course, they're fidgety monkeys anyhow, so perhaps it's fitting.

There are also some recent studies that show a marked increase in health if one takes little walks throughout the day, of short duration. It also keeps one from falling asleep.

I also use an exercise ball instead of a chair; the little walks I could definitely add. :)

I had an office mate at JGI who had a really tall desk. So he could alternate standing at it versus sitting on a tall chair. It seemed like a good idea to me, although most of the other people there just thought it was weird ( ... )

There exist downloadable programs that will lock you out of your computer for preset periods of time at given intervals, forcing you to (a) take a break and (b) do so off the computer. I've never used any of these, but some of my friends have had good success with them.

I've found that propping my monitor up higher encourages me to sit straighter.

I highly recommend having a rock gym within walking distance. Barring that, finding bits of architecture to climb on is also good ;)

Is your new office sufficiently large to accommodate a yoga mat?
