Hah! I did the same thing with that book. I haven't read the sequel as there were certain things I wanted the sequel to address, but I've heard it deals with other stuff that I'm less interested in.

I'm curious what things you wanted the sequel to discuss! Feel free to email me if you are afraid of spoilers on LJ (or I'm happy to screen the comments here). I read the sequel, and while it didn't answer one of the questions I really wanted it to the way I wanted it to (I think because there isn't actually an answer to that particular question), I found it to be worthwhile regardless, though obviously different in its themes from the first book and perhaps a bit less compelling because of those differences.

I am uninterested in the "Oh geez, this boy likes me, but I like that boy, blah blah blah" which is what I was told the second book is more about. What I want is more about all the big social troubles/fallout and taking down the Big Bad Government stuff.

Hmm.. interesting. It certainly contains a fair bit of the blah blah blah, but it also covered the social troubles / fallout / Big Bad Government stuff quite well, I thought. From the perspective of young adults, of course, but covered regardless. Let me know what you think if you change your mind and read it.

Best!
