I think this will be my new IDL icon, given that instead of having normal computer syntax of function(arguments), IDL has stupid syntax of function,argument1,argument2,argument3...

Why I hate IDL (in quoted conversation format) )

There is also, IIRC, a reform function that's probably easier than transforming twice...

IDK, I kind of love IDL. But I did a lot of data processing with it in undergrad, so I feel we have come to an understanding. :D :D :D

I am completely new to it and (a) don't know how the language works and (b) don't know how the data that I'm putting into it is formatted. So. Between the two, it kind of sucks.

Oh, yeah, that would--it took me a long time to get used to handling it, and I was just massaging code somebody else had written.

The Using IDL guide (at http://www.ittvis.com/ProductServices/IDL/ProductDocumentation.aspx ) was the one that really helped me when I was starting out--not sure what documentation you do or don't have.
