Gaming props

Aug 01, 2010 22:04

I've been seeing posts online from folks sharing things they've done in games, and I thought I'd share some things I've done in way of creating gaming props, in case it gives anyone ideas of their own to use in their sessions and to solicit some additional ideas. ( If you don't run (or play) table-top RPGs, this will probably be kinda boring - and it's pretty long - so I'm going to hide it under a cut. )

Awesome props! I ran the gaming program at Penguicon for a few years. One of those years we had a bunch of the folks from Palladium come in as guests, and a couple of them shared some great ideas for RPG props along these lines. I wish you could have been there!

Thanks! That does sound like it'd be awesome. I keep looking for things like that at GenCon. X-DM is the closest I've found, and I've definitely gotten some ideas off of them.

You probably don't remember it, but you actually played the second time I ran that spherical room. Cla-Ook was carried out of there in a backpack; he was one of the two casualties of the fight. :-o

But he got better. ;-)

Even in ftf tabletop games, most of my "props" (to the extent I ever make/use them) are more image-oriented than physical-object-oriented. Probably the coolest was the Photoshop-based image puzzle I made for Cyberway where you all had to press the right set of buttons to light up the right sections of the image to read the secret message (or secret red herring). That was fun to come up with!

Of course, there was also that time I made us kobold-tails to pin to our skirts.... :D

Ha, yeah, that puzzle was interesting to play through, also. (Also, I've definitely learned more about using real images from gaming with you, although sadly many of my ideas keep failing to reach the point of implementation...)

And I still have my kobold-tail! :D

Those are some nifty props. I don't think I've ever used anything like those.

Oh, I guess we did create this image for use with our Epic of Xelda adventure for StoryCards at GenCon last year.
