In honor of tomorrow (Deaf Day at Robin Hood Faire), I give you a slice of life from high school. Some of you have heard this story before, but it's the story of how my mom tried to introduce me to a Deaf idol of mine. I originally wrote this in high school, and I'm not going to re-write it now, so forgive the slightly anachronistic details. ;c ( Read more... )

That’s a nifty story! How old were you when you wrote it up?

So did your mom learn to sign because of your interest in it? (That’s also pretty cool.)

I wrote this senior year, so ... 17.

And my mom studied ASL a little when she was younger, then stopped and ended up forgetting most of it. Hence her thinking she signed a lot more than she actually could. *smile*

I learned some ASL a few years ago. I wish I had practiced it. I still know a lot. Right now I'm in South Korea so nobody here knows American Sign Language.

That's cool. I have to learn ASL sometime. In May I went to a work-related conference. And rather than pay attention to the speaker, I was in awe of the tag-team of sign-language interpreters. They did it so effortlessly.

FYI .. your name is similar to a Tagalog word ... nasira. It means "it got broken." heh.
