Black patent stilettos? Works for me.

Today's poem is "Bette Davis," by Hazel Nolan.

Grandma dreamed
of fifties movie-stardom.
She wanted a perfect blond bob,
a tiny waist and full skirts
a loving husband,
a beautiful home
and two wonderful children.

Grandma found
marriage and motherhood
with eight children.
When she died her hands
wore the tenderness of dishwater.

I'll avenge Grabdma,
I'll travel back in time
and direct every film.
Bette Davis will be the star.
She'll wear a pencil skirt,
with black patent stilettos
and a cigarette hanging from her red painted lips
as she stares contemptuously at every man.
