Spring Flowers

Yay!  It's spring!  Well, at least it is down here!  While everyone in the Northern Hemisphere is entering autumn and heading towards winter, it's finally warming up here.  It's about time.  We've had an unusually cold winter for Perth and I'm ready to defrost!

My garden has been blooming for a few weeks now.  Here's a selection for your enjoyment ( Read more... )

Oh, such loveliness! Such freshness, such colour! Is that a climbing Jasmine? They had those in northern California when I lived there. I loved them. They looked great and smelled even better. Ah.....!

Thank you, Mechtild! Yes, it's a climbing jasmine. It climbs a bit too well. It's almost smothered the little pink rose bush, so it'll need to be cut back soon. I love the perfume too. Our neighbour doesn't, however. She only complained last year, and she's been living there for over 20 years! This particular neighbour can be a bit of a pain at times (very nosy), so I don't feel too bad about annoying her for a few weeks out of the year! Awful, aren't I? :p :)

Hates the smell of jasmine! That's one I've never heard. Yes, I think she'll have to bear it. Sure beats having a neighbour who blasts music or whose dog poops and pees all over your garden (just to think of two things I'd hate, especially the first).

Apparently the perfume is too strong for her. :)

We're fortunate that we don't have those problems! However, we have a drummer who lives somewhere in our street. Luckily, he/she is far enough away to not be a nuisance when they practice!

I can almost smell those freesias - it's such a beautiful scent.

These are lovely, lovely images - including the little bees (maybe not so much the mosquito :P). I really miss my jasmine, which also had smothered our side fence and at this time of year would almost sent me high with the scent.

PS - we call those snowdrops too - is this wrong?

The freesias are glorious. It's such a pleasure to walk down the garden path. Even the linarias have a faint perfume, which I didn't notice until I leaned down close to them. Then I realised that I recognised it from when I was young and Mum had them in her garden.

I think it was last year that I posted some photos, naming them snowdrops and truehobbit questioned it. When I Googled "snowdrops", I saw that the flowers were almost the same, only the petals are narrower and more elongated.

Nevertheless, I still refer to ours as snowdrops! :)
