Queensland in for another battering

I feel so sorry for the people of Queensland.  After the devastating floods in the south of the state last month, the north is facing another horror tonight.

Cyclone Yasi is at this moment bearing down on the coast.  It's expected to cross the coast in about an hour's time.  It is a category 5 cyclone - the most destructive of all, with winds  ( Read more... )

It sounds bad, Maewyn. But I'm so glad Cyclone Bianca weakened before it hit the west coasts. Or so it said on the internet news. Hang in there, Queensland.

We were very thankful that we didn't have any problems with Cyclone Bianca. It bypassed us, keeping far enough away from the coast to avoid any high winds. We just got some light rain.

Did you click on the live webcam? I've had it playing for the last 35 minutes or so. (It has over 3,000 live viewers at the moment!) Some of the wind gusts are scary. When I first started watching it, I couldn't work out what the other noise was. At first I thought it may have been a security alarm. It turns out to be a whole lot of green tree frogs "singing"!

It's now the next morning. Reports are coming through of a lot of damage to property. However the good news is, so far - no deaths or major injuries to people have been reported.
