Wildlife 2

This is the second of my "wildlife" posts.

Our garden hosts many different type of insects.  They are always there, though not necessarily seen!  These pictures are of several different varieties of insects that I've photographed over the last few years.

I don't know whether I find your talent for photos or your lack of fear of these critters more admirable. :D But I do know that I love your loving view and the way you take notice of them. :)

Ha ha! It's probably because I grew up on a vineyard that was crawling with myriads of different insects, spiders and reptiles! It was just a part of my life. :)

I remember my Dad showing me how to find ant lions. When you found a sand trap, you broke off a hollow wild oat stem, then you blew through it into the trap. You had to be fast, otherwise they would dig away from the disturbance. These days I just gently disturb the centre of the trap with a fine stick to see which side the ant lion is on, then quickly dig behind it (they move backwards). Sometimes I still don't manage to get one! See, I'm still a big kid! :)
