Baby's got a name

Dears, we've decided that we won't follow the usual "rules" for horse names in Germany (they're luckily only custom, but not directives from our breeding clubs), but go after my late father-in-law's "method". He was convinced that in breeding the mares are more important as the stallions (science proved him right: Nowadays it's said that a foal ( Read more... )

Fini, I like it! We don't name ours until they are 3 days old, but we don't follow the naming after a parent rule, we go by their character and choose something based on their character from the language we use for their registered names. If I followed the PRE rule for Tari her name would have to end in the letter "A", if I followed the maternal side rule her name would have to start witht he letter "P", but as it happens, Tari's name is Kementári which, of course, doesn't fit into either!

Normally our foals mostly get their final name when they're four years old and we need to get them a horse pass for showing them on the first events. ;-)
Only in this case ... well, Fini is special.
I actually like the idea of giving them names suiting their character and not following any rules. However, if we'd do that we'd never get finished with our debates. It's difficult enough as it is. ;-)

He, I was crying a bit too because the name wasn't my idea, but B.s. He said by looking at the boy he thought: "Here Luise has finally gotten her Robin ..."

It's cute, isn't it? In the moment it's still his mother who's grumbling when someone calls "Fini" (well, "Filia" sounds rather alike), but I think he'll learn that "Fini" means him. ;-)
