Yes it is entirely possible. My dad has a computer progam and adapter that is hooked up between his turntable and computer. He's burned quite a few albums onto CD, although it was a couple of years ago.
I know Becca(my roommate) has her turntable hooked up to her computer, so I'm assuming you would just need the program from there. She mentioned to me once that you can buy the adapter at Radioshack for [approximately] $60. You could talk to her further if you're interested...
it is possible, and not terribly difficult, just time consuming. the easiest way is to just output from the headphone jack on one's receiver (to which one's turntable is connected) into the microphone jack on one's soundcard. then one simply adjusts the levels and presses record on the relevant program, recording them as wav files. those wav files can then be encoded into mp3s or burned onto cds, per one's preference.
how many albums is he looking to do? if hes just got a few, i might be able to hook a brotha up, but if hes looking to do it indefinately then hes gonna have to do it himself.
and as for the program he needs, i highly recommend cool edit 2000. it is my audio editing program of choice and what ive used for all my vinyl ripping.
speaking of all this music/computer nerd stuff, what's the word on those gutg songs? I can burn them on to one of my cd's at vegan throwdown if they're ready to go. let me know
thanks thanks thanks to everyone for the information. i will relay said information to my dad. if he's curious about anything in particular i might be asking further questions...
