Baby Chase is off of antibiotics, IV, and was off Oxygen by Friday morning, he does have jaundice which we expected with all of his bruising (head, arms, back, poor baby) but he is under the bili lights and once he is clear of jaundice will be home, hopefully Tuesday morning. His left arm is still limp, but the neo-natalogist is very optimistic ( Read more... )

a not so sacred memory of birth.

Oh honey, my heart aches for you. You deserve time to process his birth, and I wish I knew how to make that easier for you. When I see my midwife next week (she is still in Senegal) I will ask her for some resources. We've chatted before about how hard it is on couples who transfer to the hospital after an attempted homebirth (the loss of power they feel, and the jarring of what they expected birth to be like, etc) so I know she will have some words of wisdom. Give yourself time to heal, emotionally and physically - mourning the birth you wanted, and recovering from the trauma of how he came into the world, does not take away from the love you have for your son.

Words fail. Rest up tonight, and take each day as it comes. Be gentle with yourself.

Call if you need anything...someone to bring you lunch, keep you company, a shoulder to cry on...ANYTHING.

While I wasn't planning quite as natural of a birth as you I still know what you mean and I remember very plainly the discomfort after hands have been reaching inside you to grab something out (for me it was both Megan and later the placenta since it had torn into two pieces) and it definitely is HARD to not have things go the way you invision them for SO long. I remember the swelling and soreness and I suggest ice packs, religious use of that squirt bottle thing and sitz baths to soothe you. I don't think you are selfish I feel this is natural and it takes time to process and heal from this not only physically but mentally as well.

I'm so sorry that the birth ended up being such a traumatizing and painful experience. The way you describe it just sounds awful. I'm glad you're both okay and hope you both recover quickly.
