Prefolds question

Jul 04, 2009 13:48

I know a couple of you reading this have used prefold diapers.... The only thing I am worried about is them containing a particularly messy poop... Any input???? Experiences? tips?
He is snoozing in a Fuzzibunz now and it fits him very nicely!

I haven't used prefolds very much, but with a particularly messy breastmilk poop my shoddily secured prefold leaked out a bit but the cover (I think it was Bummis) held in the mess.

We use g diapers (http://www.gdiapers.com/), but instead of using the flushable insert we use a folded up piece of diaper flannel or a prefold. It's the best! I can't say enough about how much I love this system. You only have to wash the part of the diaper that's actually soiled instead of washing the entire cloth diaper. It's easy to put together and you can preassemble them so that it's as easy to put on baby as a disposable diaper. I've never ever, ever had a leak with these, but almost every time I've put Valerie into a disposable diaper she's had a nasty poopy blowout that leaks everywhere. And they're cute too and not overly bulky. It's been very, very inexpensive for us because we use the scraps of diaper flannel from a fabric store as inserts so we've only had to buy a few of the outer shells since she was born a year ago.
Best of luck.

There was a "green store" down the road that sold those and they closed! :o( I already made a pretty big investment with my diapers so I am going to stick with them.
I have dicovered though that I am not very adept at putting on the prefolds!!! he has stayed dry but it looks sloppy and bulky.

Have you tried just the trifold method? I honestly didn't care for prefolds, but that method worked the best when we did prefolds. As far as the poop at this point most of Nyla's poop is hard enough to just dump right of the diaper and if needed a little rinse in the toilet. Hope it all works out!

I just tried the butterfly fold on him and it seems to fit SO much better... Now we will see how containment is with this fold, lol

I really liked the angel fold with Nyla, but that might be different with a girl vs boy. What kind of covers are you using. I looked through my stuff and all I have is girly covers and stuff. If you don't care I would gladly send what I have, although it isn't much. Otherwise I will just keep around and maybe sell some day. Let me know! Do you like cloth so far? Have you washed yet?

I just now experienced my first poopy dipe in cloth, lol
Thank goodness he was in a BumGenius rather than a prefold, because the kid exploded!
I am seriously buying a diaper sprayer for cleaning them, lol

I much prefer pocket and AIO diapers, but the prefolds were way cheaper, I'll try the tri-fold; that's making it a triangle right? Otherwise I like the cloth and his eczema is already almost all gone!! I haven;t washed them yet I ordered Charlies Soap but it isn't here yet so I am going to buy a thing of All Free & Clear, what do you use?
I don't mind girlie diapers but my husband is a bonehead about that stuff ;o)
