my very belated birth story...

Oct 09, 2009 16:22

my son Michael was born on May 5, 2009 at 2:01pm, and this is how it went... caution, very very long.. if you want just the actual labor and delivery parts you can go to the second cut..

first cut, isoimmunization issues details for those who know..out of contact for ... wow... over 4 MONTHS!!! my comp broke, got it fixed, then lost internet...finally got internet and wifi broke, then spacebar broke had to remap whichmakes it very hard to type.. so i missed ALOT... ok... anyway update

we avoided IUTs by the skin of our teeth for two months, then in the last weeks, when they woulod have just delivered early, he started having better mca scans..went from MOM of 1.5 down to 1.25 and stayed there, they kept doing amnios for lungs because the didnt trust the mcas cause they were so hard to get, he was way down in the birth canal for the last few weeks. every amnio including the one 4 days before his birth came back way under developed, 32,38,then 40 when they wanted 51-70preferable on the high side cause im diabetic on top o everything else..so that made it a guaranteed 39week induction reguardless of the iso issues.. second cut, actual labor and delivery, kinda tmi for those on my reg friends list..

dispite all that they induced on the day he turned 39 weeks..they started with a foley bulb, that fell out after an hour which shoujld have meant i was three centimeteres.. checked me.. 1cm.. same as i started with.. they said i was "stretchy.." wth does that mean? so we did thewhole pitocin thing..im cruisin listening to my playlist looking at the visualizations.. after a couple hours they start picking up some.. oh, all this started around 9am. i was so lucky my foster daughter was there as well as my mother and husband, she is 26 now and has a son of her own, i think she ,held my hand more often than anyone...anyway everything goes smooth and easy till about noon..then the contractions started to get really vicious cause my water broke...on its own. unfortunately it seems i had two... they said the back one broke cause the water was running out but not gushing or pouring..and i could still feel the bulge of the forbag down there..

at about one oclock, i started to lose it a bit.. did i mention this was a natual delivery? all except the pitocin that is...but what made me feel like i was gonna lose it was the fact that his heart rate started dropping,,,that made me feel like it was a repeat of my birth with my first daughter Joylyn..she had a fatal disorder called zellwegers syndrome, so my mind psyched me out...about then i started having my contactions switch from "stretching" contractions to "pushing " contractions, my body was saying "push now push now.. " while my doctor kept saying you are only 8cm.. you cant push!! SHE KEPT WITH THE DIRE PREDICTIONS ABOUT TEARING MY CERVIX (sorryboutcaps)finally at about ten till, i told her , "look, youve got exactly one contraction to get ready cause this baby is coming OUT!!"

the thingi s, those who know me know when i say this... you better be ready. so..she took me seriously and was ready within 5 minutes.. another contraction hit and i pushed..what a relief..then his heartrate dropped to nothing.. i mean the beatbeatbeat of his heart just stopped.. i freaked and pushed as hard as i could, and the baby SHOT out... he actually flew UPWARDS with a gush of white water fountaining up with him like a surfer on a wave.. the spot lights illuminated the whole thing and i could see him it looked amazing but it was almost a disaster...it ws lucky that the doc had her hand on his head before he shot out cause she just barely caught him by, one butt cheek and a thigh...at 2;01pm. my first words were," is he ok, did she drop him???" then he started crying... i was so happy cause joylyn didnt cry right off...
third cut, aftermath and nicu, start of breastfeeding

everything was great at first, he wasnt jaundiced, his sugar was good and he didnt have to be taken from me for the first bit..i actually got to keep him for the first 12 hours he breastfed like a champ, pooped three times, peed five times, and nursed five times in those twelve hours...then his bili came back.. well to be honest he stopped eating at 2am..and then they got his billi back.. 14.5...they tried lights in my room for a bit but he was getting more lethargic.. the next count was 17..then 18.9... everything said he should be transfused.. but they have a new no transfusion unless itws really dire thing at the hospital i had him in...so quadruple lights, no getting him out to nurse or anything, tube feedings, ivs..etc.. after me fighting them and insisting on tube feedings for a week, they completely sabotaged my breastfeeding relationship with him by forcing me to give him bottles for the last three days he was in there.. total of 9 days..then they sent him home on a billi blanket which as soon as i got him home and out of the hospital environment his billis dropped drmatically.. from 17,5 to 10,9 in one day, then down to 6 the next, afterwhich they stopped the tests and ditched the blanket for good.. they had discontinued temporarily after the first day but were waiting for the numbers to jump back up..that was the end of his medical problems ... it took me almost 3 months to get him back to the breast but he is doing fine now... OH he was born 7lb9 oz after all those dire predictions of a huge diabetic baby..ha, i kept my a1c levels below normal the whole pregnancy! anyway he is perfect now.. having a little trouble catching up on his weight..lost weight on the bottle and ,is gaining it back now in the 5 weeks we have had him back to the breast..so all good...

whew.. hope chunking it up helped some..sorry, for the book yall.. my fingers ran away on their own i promise...

ps, this was all typed stream of conciousness.. and i have no where near the energy to edit it so yay for anyone who got through the whole thing ;;grin;;
