Gloria Mundi update

Last night was a rather sedate session of Gloria Mundi. I gave my players a little homework: I told 'em to hit this site and look up their Shadow Names, just so they could maybe get a hint of how I designed the characters and so they could make some decisions about their direction. That's not to say that the characters have been aimless; danieltallon has done great things with Morrigan and I fully expect her to die a villain's death before the chronicle ends, and docelboze has turned Tyrrhenus into a fairly subtle sort of leader. My goal now is to make the orders a larger part of the game, since the new player's character is about 24 hours from her Awakening and obviously doesn't have an order yet.

Anywho.

The characters woke up after sleeping off their eventful night, still worried about Jack. They discussed what might have happened to him, and Tyrrhenus put forth the idea that he might have thrown himself out of step with their time, meaning they might catch up to him eventually. That wasn't good enough for Morrigan, so Niamh used her meager knowledge of Time to find out if Jack would return to them safely. "The Universe" said he would, and that sated the cabal for the moment.

Much of the game was spent teaching Gwendolyn about magic: covert vs. vulgar, Mage Sight, armor, the basics. I think it's interesting that neither orders nor Atlantis were even mentioned, and since Niamh is now under player control again, I didn't have a voice in the proceedings (which was fine).

The other main focus of the chapter was researching the Gravenor family, Isaiah and Mariah in particular. The characters found that the family was originally descended of Welsh nobility and got rich running hog farms. The family's main base of operations is actually further south (I haven't gotten more specific yet because they haven't asked, but if they want to road-trip to Gravenor Farms I will totally pull out the stops for that game and send weaver42 a thank-you card), but Isaiah was a player in Boston until his death in 1995 (car accident). His granddaughter, Mariah, still alive and wearing her age of 45 well, is a friend of the community - wealthy, but not upscale. Ogma discovered that the police in Southie have an unofficial policy of looking the other way for her; she's never had so much as a parking ticket.

Isaiah had a record, but it was minor: Trespassing charge back in the mid 70s. Interestingly, the area he was caught in was once rumored to be a mob graveyard...

Other info of note: The theater that Isaiah started was, for many years, dark during the month of December at his insistence. That policy was abandoned after her died. Also, the Gravenor family tree doesn't seem to fork much, but that might just be the unreliability of online records.

Finally, realizing they needed to know more than mundane sources were going to tell them, Niamh called up the Curator of Boston's Mysterium, a man called Potestas (this guy's cabal is so bad-ass, they have a cabal of Adamantine Arrow mage's Oathbound to protect them. Be polite to the Brotherhood). They've got a meeting tomorrow to discuss genius territorials. We'll see what shakes loose.
