Gloria Mundi update

So, Winter's off with her new mentor, Niamh went on pilgrimage with Seraphim, and Kali is off finding her Moros-y roots (i.e., trying to become a Bokor, I'll bet). That leaves Tyrrhenus and Ogma of the original cabal (Jack's still lost in time), and Kathryn, our new character...Kali's sister. Kathryn is a pre-med student at Harvard, and friends with Clint Zellner, whom you might remember from Finals Week of the Mage demo.

So tonight she and Clint were out walking in the snow, and saw a group of students up ahead. Clint, acting as mentor, asked if she could see their auras; she tried and failed. He looked, and noted with some suprise that they didn't seem to have them. As they got closer, the students moved in threateningly. Clint managed to throw an armor spell on Kathryn before the beating began. The last thing Kathryn felt before losing conciousness as a ring of toughs stomped on her was a phone number and the name "Tyrrhenus."

When Kathryn woke up, she was beaten senseless, broken arms, teeth, nose, and Clint was gone, as were the toughs. She healed herself a little, both with magic and the Artifact she'd brought back from the Primal Wild, and then called the number.

Cut to Ogma and Tyrrhenus, rather enjoying the time off. Tyrrhenus had spent the downtime getting more involved in Consilium affairs and had learned that there had been some violence between mages of late (which was why in the last story the Sentinels had been called in for a meeting), but that the instigators weren't Consilium members so no one was sure who was starting it. Tyrrhenus answered and after a few initial pleasantries, met Kathryn at a local coffee shop so she could explain.

The characters went through the usual dancing around the topic of magic and realized that Kathryn was Kali's sister, though they haven't spoken in years. Kathryn was very surprised to find that Kali (her real name is Cecelia, you might recall) was a mage as well, and although shaken by what had happened to Clint, happy to talk to othe mages. Tyrrhenus and Ogma went first to Kathryn's dorm, where Ogma tried to scry for him and hit a powerful ward - obviously he was taken somewhere with another mage. They also noodled over the "no aura" thing and guessed that the young punks might have been mind-controlled, or else undead.

Going to Clint's room gave them some further info, as they found his journal and read his notes on the ethics of Mind magic to ace tests, and that he'd noted that two of his professors were Awakened. One was Dr. Benjamin Imes, who the characters knew (though weren't on especially good terms with) and the other was Dr. Amanda Kether. Kether had apparently taught at Harvard for 35 years, but there were no photos on the web site and she didn't have tenure. This set off the characters' weirdness radar, but since they didn't know Kether, they decided to drop in on Imes.

A Winds of Chance spell smoothed the way, and Imes let them in, provided they drop any spells they had up first. He told them that he didn't know anything about what had happened, but said that Kether was very approachable, even for non-Seers (we'll see if he's telling the truth, since nobody thought to check).

Before going home, they went out to the scene of the crime and Ogma verified that no one had, in fact, died at the site. So, banking on Clint still being alive, they went home to sleep and decided to go see Dr. Kether in the morning.
