The characters chatted about their next moves and hit the hay. In the middle of night, Jack got up for a piss and saw something walking down their hallway. The something, a man, charged him - Jack fortunately ducked back into his room and shut the door. Morrigan woke and yelled at the guy, pointing her gun, the other mages woke up, it tried to attack Tyrrhenus but failed, Morrigan shot. Coagulated blood fell out of the wound. The battle continued for a few turns; Jack used Evil Eye, Niamh used Coaxing the Spirits on Morrigan's gun, etc, etc. The zombie didn't inflict any damage; I made the dice pools too low, dammit. :)
They destroyed it, and then Ogma opened the window and heard sirens. Morrigan destroyed the body and changed the blood to water, but Ogma noted that there was a sympathetic connection between the zombie and Morrigan (though she swore up and down she didn't create it). The police arrived with a warrant to search the house for corpse, but of course did not find one. Ogma, of course, knows the cops, and noted that a judge named Napier signed off on the warrant. Napier, Ogma recalled, sat on a case involving one of the Licavoli gangsters implicated in the shooting of Dick McManus (see Made Men, part 5 of the demo) a while back. Curioser and curioser.
After the cops left, Jack looked back in time and noted that the zombie had just appeared from nowhere, or rather, from a Portal. Ogma debated using Follow Through to go back to the portal's origins, but decided that was a bad idea. He then tried to create a ward over the house, but dramatically failed the roll. And here I noticed a flaw in the Mage system...
...dramatic failures on spells don't do shit.
Screw that. The magic flickered over the house and all pre-existing spells vanished. Morrigan, not knowing that Ogma had been responsible, activated Sense Conciousness, but was deafened by the thoughts of her cabal-mates. Tired and spent, the cabal went to sleep, with Tyrrhenus staying up to guard the place. Tomorrow, they intend to talk to Enoch about the mirror, and perhaps to confront Chambers about his possible involvement. 10/18
Oh, and I borrowed a copy of Boston Unveiled until my copy arrives. On a quick skim, I've already got plot hooks.
