I went back and forth on whether to vaccinate both of my girls. In the end, I did it due to their marked lack of allergies and my hope to expand our travels in the near future. I was fine with the decsion until a check-up with my regular doctor yielded this statement: "Oh, it's all just hysteria over the mercury levels in some shots. There's more mercury in some fish ...". I had never heard a professional so obviously unwilling to consider that an alternative exists to what he'd learned in Medical School. His confidence made me feel as though doing exactly what he would have done was possibly the most ill informed parenting move I'd made. He'd definately not kept up with both sides of the issue if he thought mercury was the only questionable substance .... It is definately disconcerting to know that you've researched more than someone paid and trained to do so for humanity's benefit. Good luck.
Tough call, I'd say be more cautious and prepared for anaphylaxis than I would be with say, my unallergic kids, but I'd still go ahead with the vaccines. Your doctor is a good doctor to provide you with options and information rather than advice, even though it feels frustrating when the decision is hard. And I did avoid thimerasol-laden vaccines, but otherwise immunized on schedule. Pertussis was our worst reaction (fussy babe #1) and it passes, obviously. Good luck to you and your sweet boy.
