Session V

Hefting their loot and rubbing their wounds, the group heads towards the town of Hatheril.

I’ll warn you all, this is a more extensive as there was more roleplay in this session and it just happened.  I am trying to put more of the NPC notes here as well for player and my reference.

As the group wanders back to the town of Hatheril they consider not heading back to the city of Sharn.  They know that they have enemies and they know that they have lost a good deal of knowledge and power, they are thinking about moving further north to adventure and find possible knowledge of what they might have been.  On the outskirts of the town they are met by a small group of the local militia, leading the group is what looks to be the servant they freed from the fireplace at the Keep.  He makes a motion toward the party and the militia leader walks forward, “I have been asked by the commander of the Hatheril Militia to escort you to his presence.  If you would please follow me, you are not in trouble but my commander would like to speak with you.”  There are some questions back and forth but they all go along and meet the Commander.

The militia barracs are well maintained and they are lead into the office of the Commander and asked to wait as he would be there shortly.  The Commander walked in with an elderly looking gentleman, he may have been in his later fifties but the lines of worry and wear have worn his face to be older.  The older man looked very surprised to see the group and when the Commander whispered into his ear, he could only nod.

The Commander led the man to a chair and went behind his desk and sat down, “Thank you for coming and I do apologize for having you met at the town boarder by the guards but I did want to make sure you were found before you wondered off into the country.” Pathos makes a remark interrupting the Commander, who just glowered at him, to which Pathos apologizes. “As I was saying, I was informed when the servant from Helmsplitter Keep appeared in town early yesterday morning.  He informed us that the Keep had been overrun by goblins but some adventures where there cleaning it out.  That was nice to hear but the odd part was that he claimed on of them was a Warforged that claimed to be Pathos Helmsplitter.”

Pathos pipes up, “Yep that is me, you see we have been made young by an evil spell and now we don’t know what is going on.”

The Commander looks long at him, “I’m sure I would not know anything about that.  This man here is Goodman Henry.  He served Master Pathos for many years and only just last year left his service.  He received the mail for Pathos that was delivered here.  He also says that all of you look as you did 15 years ago, although younger.”

Henry spoke up, “I don’t know how, but you do have his way about you.  I know that the Keep is now gone and I have not heard from Master Pathos in over a month now.  I have some letters for him, I will give them to you all in hopes that if you are who you say you are then you can find your back to your old lives and if you may be able to find and help my good friend.”  He places a bundle stack of three letters on the table, and then leaves with tears welling up in his eyes.

The Commander clears his throat, “Now onto business, the town would like to thank you.  Not only did you clear the goblin threat without being asked you also saved us the lives of those we would have to of sent to clear it.  Take this as a reward from the people,” and he places a small bag on the table.  “Also a local craftsman by the name of Burner, she is a competent Artificer, has given me two items to give to you in hopes that you will spread her name if they please you.”  He pulls out a nicely carved staff and bow.  “She request you audience you will later today, he shop is along the merchant road a few blocks from the Lightning Rail station.”

They thanked the Commander and gathered their rewards and the letters.  They took time at an inn, the Black Cauldron, to look over the items and see what the pouch contained.  To their surprise they were given a very rich reward from the people and the two weapons were, in fact, magically enchanted.   They decided that a meeting with this Burner may be in order.  They find the shop very easy and enter Burners Apothecary.  As the bell above the door tinkles their entrance a hollow female voice greets them from the back of the shop, “I’ll be right out”.  A tall Warforged comes to the front of the small shop, her work smock unable to fully hide the fact that her body construction is that of a female.   She is fully clothed, and in everyway moves like a female human might.  “Yes, can I help you… wait you are the four who were said to have cleared the Keep, right?”

They confirmed and they complimented her on her construction of the staff and bow, as she was warming up to some nicely said words from Pathos, she returned that his plating looks exquisite.  Pathos did agree and said that Dwarven craftsmen were by far the only ones that were any good.  To this she was a bit insulted but it was tempered by what was said by him earlier.  As they made some more pleasant overtures towards her and her looks, Pathos manages to mutter out how she looks like a very fine woman.  At that Burner melted and jumps Pathos with a hug.  She let them know they have been the kindest people she has met and Pathos is the only warforged that has not looked at her in distain.  Her body is not her doing but she is proud of it and takes care to keep in made.

Burrow ask if she know where she was made, Pathos croaks a warning, but she does not blink an eye.  “Five years ago I was found outside of New Cyre.  The first thing I remember is waking up in the home of a elderly Artificer, she had served in the Last War in Cyre, and they had brought me to her.  She taught me and clothed me as my unusual body seemed to make the other humans nervous and agitated the other Warforged.  I learned the craft of an Artificer and once I was ready set out for adventure, last year I set up shop here in Hatheril.  I like you guys, look I can give you a discount, a quarter off market prices for my magical goods.”

They thanked her and set back to the Black Cauldron to think over what they should do.  While talking it over at a table they are approached by a man, “Excuse me, can I have a word with you.”

Without even looking up Pathos blurts out, “Excuse me mysterious cloaked old man in the corner with and eye patch, do you have a quest for me?”

The man stares stunned at him, “I do not have a cloak or eye patch, and last I looked I am not old.  I was sent to find you by my employer Ethan Barnel the Merchant Prince of Sharn.  He would like you to come and meet with him in Wroat to discuss his offer.  He will pay for you travel by Lightning Rail and from there you can decide if you want to take his offer.”

They decided to take him up on his offer and met him at the Lightning Rail station and set off to Wroat.  The trip took the better part of a day, they arrived early and met with Ethan Barnel in a mansion owned by House Kundrak.  The met the merchant prince and his employer Barak D’Kundrak.  Barak started the conversation, “I have need of you to take an item to the Mror Holds.  I do not want this taken by air or by boat and not done through the proper channels.   I will allow you to see and know what it is you carry so that you know the importance of it.”  He brings out a small box, less than half a foot long, and opens it.  Inside is a Syberious Dragon Shard of more than five inches long and two inches diameter.

“As you can see this is a treasure of untold value and I wish it to get to its delivery place as required.  There is no hurry, and no deadline.  All that matters is that it shard make it to the Mror Hold and be delivered as promised.  Do not take the airships or boat; this delivery must be made over land.  You will be given travel papers to Flame Keep in Thrane, from there you will receive further instructions.  The less you know, the less will be at risk.”

They left that night under cover of darkness and went to the Lightning Rail station, then took the train to Sword Keep, the last settlement before Thrane border.  They received horses and bought rations for the long trip to Flame Keep.  The decided to go by way of back roads keeping clear of major established settlements and towns.  Along about the third night, they were accounted by giant spiders that nearly killed Aramil and Andreia.  After finding the spider nest there was some more money and a magical sword, they made their way further towards Flame Keep.  With less than a day out, they were attack by a ghoul, who very nearly took them out but they did manage to come out on top.

We end the night just outside the walls to city of Flame Keep.
