All of them but the last one were good. Quite a few activists getting married in SF have come out and said they don't really want to be married, they just want to test the system and defy norms. I find that offensive to religions. So here's the perfect compromise that will never happen. I think Marriage should be wiped off the books, civil unions should be what gets you benefits...and (here's the kicker) any religious group can confer a "marriage" upon a couple. It's been a religious institution for thousands of years and I don't see why that should change. So you'd go and get a civil union so you get the presumptive benefits of that legal distinction and then if your cultural or religious background makes you also want to get married ("under god" and all that) then you should go and do that. Enough ranting I guess.
