Hey peeps who live(d) in Portland:

What should someone know about Portland if they're thinking about relocating there.

(This is for a friend, not for me. I didn't apply to the Portland job.)

  1. The cold, damp, dark days of winter last at least TWICE as long as you think.
  2. Portlandia is pretty much true.
http://movingtoportland.net/ is a good starting point for understanding the neighborhoods, suburbs, real estate. And there's damnportlanders for all other esoteric questions and snarks! Feel free to point them in my direction if they have any specific questions as well. :)

Thanks! I've seen that site and I will definitely post in that community if I have questions. I guess my biggest concerns at this point are things I don't think anyone can really answer for me ("Will I find a job?"). I have heard nothing but good things about the city; I considered moving there for a while when I was a senior in college but life got in the way. And the winter I spent in Germany began in October and ended in June - after that everything feels mild.

But thanks again!
