United sucks

Jan 06, 2012 12:56

Over at my Wordpress blog, I wrote about how United sucks for traveling with children. Take a peek over there, if you don't mind the extra click to read schtuff I wrote. If you do read it, do me a favor and "like" and/or comment on it. I put the link in an email and a feedback form, but if any United "Customer Relations" reps mosey over there, I ( Read more... )

(Also, can you contest the charges on your card on the basis that you did not receive a service you paid for? I would).

That's what I was going to do if they didn't OK the refund, but they finally did. But refunding for the upgrades 2 weeks later, while saying that their policy doesn't guarantee families can sit together? Seriously, bare minimum, not enough to make me fly with them again.

I'd STILL contest it.

Ugh. That is truly ridiculous, but unfortunately, not nearly the first time I've heard of this. I read an article that was on Yahoo awhile ago about a family that dealt with this exact thing (I don't remember if it was specifically United, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was). Apparently, thousands of families having this same problem all the time and end up holding up flights while desperately trying to explain to gate people that YOU SERIOUSLY CAN'T EXPECT A TODDLER TO FLY UNSUPERVISED AND THE PARENTS TO JUST BE OKAY WITH IT. Earth Logic, United has none.

I don't understand this at all. I mean, reading back over my post, even to my own ears I sound like I have anger management issues, because I'm getting so fricking angry over a seat. But it's NOT a seat... it's the fact that they just. don't. care. that they put a 2-year-old by herself. Like, they don't see this as a problem.

And this isn't about being a hovercopter mom. I don't think she's going to get hurt or raped or kidnapped. She is just going to scream her head off to sit with "Mommy-Daddy." See, toddlers have this thing called "stranger anxiety." They also have this thing called "not understanding rules yet because they're 2." She will stay in her seat for approximately 15 seconds without someone there to say "No, you have to keep your seat belt on and stay in your seat" on repeat. Do they really want their flight to be like that?

It's completely justifiable rage. The other option is to basically sit back and say, "Okay. LET my kid sit ten seats away from either one of her parents, and we'll just see how that goes."

Except someone (including the fucking airline) would probably try to find a way to turn it back on you and say you were a negligent parent if you tried to make an example of how retarded their system is.
