Wow, someone actually remembered that A Fresh Start exists and nominated it for nextgen_awards (Het One-Shot).* If I win I will totally LMAO, but since I'm totally going to get my ass kicked I'll find something else to laugh about

I didn't know you had an FF.Net account! Oh, yeah. That was the first place I worked up the nerve to post when I started writing Potterfic. I got out of the habit of putting stuff there for a while, then went back to it (sporadically) after I left Checkmated and gave up on Fiction Alley. I linked to that version of AFS because it was significantly revised from the original version I posted in my LJ, and Checkmated's still too unstable/unreliable.
Snow: the ex-boyfriend that just won't get the hint
Yeah. He had to replace the pump pulling water in, and it took a while for the pump to get here and then for him to install it. Fortunately we have alternate heat sources - propane heaters and a wood stove - but still. I'd just gotten used to having an ambient temperature above 60 degrees (not to mention that propane gas doesn't come for free).
I never thought I'd be saying this but I'm really, REALLY sick of snow. Not only is there more coming this weekend but there's another, potentially bigger storm on tap for Tuesday/Wednesday. *cries*
i can haz florida nao? :(
You guys should come out here this weekend. I've got heat and I think if I have to get snowed in for another weekend by myself I will do something crazy, like shave the cats or drink myself into a coma.
Heh. Your offer is very, very tempting, especially the "drink myself into a coma" bit. Unfortunately, we have a dog, and kennels aren't cheap. Plus God knows what the school situation will be like on Friday.
Y'know, I seriously considered moving to Alabama because it's generally less expensive and doesn't have winters like Michigan, but chose Virginia because it was familiar and close to family. Whoops.
At least they're not people from Mississippi or Georgia. (Though if we had moved there, there latter would be cancelled out by the fact that Gobs is, technically, a person from Georgia. *g*)
BTW, saw your Twitter plea for crockpot recipes. Pity you don't eat pork, because the crockpot is perfect for doing a pork roast in. An easy-peasy recipe is beef stew: cubed beef, carrots, celery, onions, 1/2 c liquid (beef stock, red wine, water, whatever) and any spices. Maybe you should ask Mom for her sweet & sour meatballs recipe. Or were they Swedish meatballs?
Thanks for the good thoughts! Your furnace was oil-powered, wasn't it? Ours is a groundsource heat pump, and apparently the pump isn't drawing water, so it ends up just blowing air into the apartment.
I thought you New Englanders were too tough to take snow days. :-P (In Michigan, the only times school was closed was for ice - rare, and usually early in the season before the ground got good and frozen - or dangerously cold temperatures. Never for snow, not even several feet of it.)
It's actually been an interetsing ongoing discussion on metafandom, about gender roles and the erasure of female characters when fandom (especially slash) is All About the Cock. I'm just aggravated with all the knee-jerk defensiveness and justifications in response to people saying, "Hey, y'know, this is kind of problematic; maybe we should examine it."

If I didn't suspect that Trixie would poop in my bed as revenge, I'd tell you to bring the dog, too.

And why do you have more snow than us? Seriously, I'd give a lot for a snow day about now.

We are too tough. But we haven't had ANY snow. Or any serious snow.
But I decided that I didn't want to wait for a snow day, I'm taking a mental health day tomorrow...I could use it!

This has been the first actual winter in like four years around here and I am very confused. We're expecting up to 2 feet.
