Oh, life. Never change.

Imagine my astonishment when I discovered that the animal I accidentally ran over this morning as I was taking the Goblin to meet his bus was not only still alive an hour later, but also not a possum. It was a large snapping turtle.

I found this out when I was returning home and saw the creature still in the middle of the road. I turned around and pulled over with my hazard lights on to shield him from being run over again (and keep my car from being rear-ended). He was obviously injured, but still moving. I tried nudging him the rest of the way across with my shoe but he got cranky and went after me instead, in the process turning himself back towards the middle of the road. In the meantime, the cows in the pasture by the road had to come over and check out what all the hubbub was about.

I then called the sheriff's department. Their Animal Control guy was already out on another call, but while I waited for him to get back in touch a guy pulled over and moved the snapper out of harm's way. I took the picture after the rescuer drove off.

As I was headed back to my car, two of my neighbors came along and stopped to see if I needed help. One of them said he'd seen (probably) the same snapper the other day, also in the road, and had had to use a kayak oar to move him along.

Other exciting news:

The Goblin is now up to 11.5 miles in his training. w00t! The marathon is in 2-1/2 weeks, so if all goes according to plan he should be able to reach his 13-mile goal in time. To celebrate his hard work, I've ordered this T-shirt for him.

I caved and have been watching North and South thanks to the magic of YouTube. I am now hopelessly in lust with Richard Armitage (see icon). I can't get into Robin Hood, but I've still got most of seasons 7 and 8 of Spooks to feed my craving. According to Audible.com he's narrated an audiobook by Georgette Heyer - I'm not a fan of Heyer, but I may have to buy it anyway so I can listen to his voice on my iPod. *swoons*

Speaking of swooning and period romances and the like, if you're ever tempted to read Captain Wentworth's Persuasion by Regina Jeffers because you love the original and think the idea of telling the story from Wentworth's POV is a great idea - don't. Seriously, it was one of the most painfully bad books I've ever had the misfortune of reading. I shudder just thinking about it, and I read it a month ago.

On the subject of painfully bad... Clash of the Titans. Ay, yi, yi. I wasn't expecting Oscar-caliber material, of course. but... ay, yi, yi. Though I probably wouldn't be so terribly vexed if it hadn't cost us $35 - $16 for the movie, and $19 for food, for 2 people! At a matinee! Not only that, but my "small" drink had to have been at least 24 oz., if not 32. I'm sorry, but 24 oz. is NOT small. Small is 16 oz., maybe 20, but not 24 and definitely not 32 oz. That's getting into Big Gulp territory.

Finally, I wrote fic! It's for takingitinturns so it's obviously Harry/Ginny, written as an homage to Raymond Chandler for the ever-fabulous reallycorking. I hope you'll read it and tell me what you think. :-)

ranty mcrantypants, goblin tales, fangasmania, books, hello richard armitage!, fic, rites of spring
