When [character] wakes up in the morning.....
NOTE: takes place the morning after Tommy discovers his true nature.
When Tommy wakes up in the morning, the world he knows doesn’t exist anymore.
The weight of it settles heavily on his shoulders as he rises from bed and begins his morning routine. He finds himself paying attention to every sensation, every sound and sight for some outward sign that things are different. The water heater is still set too high, making his shower too hot. His clothes still fit the same, even his morning protein bar and cup of coffee don’t taste any different.
Nothing is different until he wads up the wrapper of his protein bar and makes it vanish into thin air instead of just throwing it away. He feels the push, the effort it takes to reach out to the plastic and dye and the illusion of the vanish and make them fuse together into one. It’s an understanding of how to make reality and fantasy converge, an act that has no words or definition.
He knew it was possible, all his life he knew. The reality of magic, the power of hope, even the nature of evil. Beyond words, beyond even thought, he hadn’t known the details but he had known.
That was why he could catch a bullet in his hand, shot straight from a gun. That’s why he can make food wrappers vanish into nothing, why he could make himself levitate and why he could so easily understand the nature of escape…
Staring at his hands for another minute, he finally leaves the kitchen and picks up his keys and wallet from the table in his foyer, takes a breath…and walks out into the light of his brand new world.
