Guess what? I went to Trader Joe's today, and they had:
FIDDLEHEADS!
YUMMMMM. I am in freaking heaven. I haven't had fiddleheads since I was in Maine last - 5 years ago? Oh, so delicious.
And hubby got to have some too - I have a fiddlehead convert on my hands. He was in doubt at first, but upon smelling them decided they might be safe for consumption ( Read more... )

Aww, you're welcome. And aren't you cute? I like your icon.
They're delicious! I utterly adore them - and they're very hard to find outside of Maine, I'd heard that Trader Joe's carried them while in season so I called today to ask and they had magically appeared. Thankfully.
The Trader Joe's is fairly new to my area - they just put it in last year!

This is so weird. Tan and I saw them in a supermarket the other day and neither of us had any idea what they were. She just looked them up and said she won't be risking it because the seeds at the top (I think?) contain toxins that can cause food poisoning if not prepared properly, so I guess we're avoiding them *lol* though I do recall there being preparation instructions on the packaging, hah :D

They looked weird to me :P

I know they look weird, but they're so freaking yummy. Really, it only requires a good cleaning - it's been a long time since I made them but I found instructions through google right away. OMG, they are so much better to me than most green veggies, very mild flavored but delicious.
I had like five people ask me what you do with them at the grocery store - no kidding!
