[Personality]
To the untrained eye Merlin is pretty much a stupid, idealistic servant boy. He has no redeeming qualities that one could instantly pinpoint, but underneath that geek chic outfit of his is a master of magic in the making. Merlin is, admittingly, a bit naive when it comes to most matters. He sees good in everyone and this is one of his biggest faults. Too many times did he let people take advantage of him simply because he believed that deep down they were a good person. He doesn't take the advice of those obviously more knowing than him even when he knows he should, and acts on his emotions more often than not. He thinks everyone has a fair shot at life no matter what, and everyone should be judged equally.

He is undoubtly selfless when it concerns his friends and family, willing to sacrifice himself for them without hesitation. There have been several times in the series where he has thrown himself into dangerous situations ( mostly for Arthur, since the prince apparently can't get out of them himself. ) and he usually doesn't get credit for the things he does. He doesn't expect to considering the laws against using magic, and that being how he normally saves people, but he has gotten incredibly frustrated before about the lack of recognition.

Merlin is very outspoken and this usually gets him into even more ridiculous situations. He often says what's on his mind without thinking, does things without considering the long-term effects of it all, and he's just kind of...well, stupid at times. As Arthur does enjoy reminding him. Speaking of Arthur, his relationship with the prince is one of the most complicated. They both seem to bicker like five-year-old siblings most of the time, but it is obvious that they care for each other when they risk their lives for the other often. Because of Arthur and his father, Merlin is unwilling to admit that he has magical powers for very obvious reasons, and even if he trusts Arthur more than he should, he doesn't seem to trust him enough to confide in him.

Merlin just wants to live a normal life, but that is basically impossible with his magical abilities. He has been told numerous times that he has to fulfill his destiny, that he has to protect Arthur and Camelot. He is still a young man and while he may not like all the responsibility he knows he has to do it. He's determined to protect the people he loves ( and even the ones he barely knows ) no matter the costs, and doesn't plan on letting anyone die so long as he can help it. However that doesn't mean he is entirely pacifistic. In fact he has killed plenty of people before in attempts to protect his loved ones from them. He can more often than not hold his own in a fight, luckily, even if it's while hiding behind something and using magic.

Concerning girls Merlin is often times flustered easily by them, or, in the case of Gwen, completely oblivious to the fact that they may like him outside of being friends. One could imagine that he doesn't have the best luck with them most of the time, especially when the handsome prince Arthur is ordering him around, getting into trouble and making him look bad. Unless you count Freya, whom he was almost instantly in love with.

At this point Merlin is facing many tough decisions. He does not trust Morgana as far as he can throw her and must constantly try and thwart her efforts to kill Uther without anyone else knowing. He has grown more serious along with everyone else in the kingdom, more wary and cautious. And while he still has that outspoken, naive attitude, it has faded considerably considering the circumstances. He knew he had to kill Morgana, but in the end found that he couldn't take her life and ended up saving her for the sake of Uther and Arthur's feelings. He regrets many things, and he just wants to keep everyone safe, but he realizes that he can't save everyone, and that is one of the most difficult things for poor Merlin. Who holds a lot of responsibility on his shoulders that he does not want, but has no choice to keep.

During his stay in Camelot Merlin has grown considerably. He has gained many friends and many enemies and he may be more confident in his abilities now than when he started, but he is still hesitant with a lot of things. He knows he has a destiny to fulfill, a kingdom to protect, a stupid, doppleheaded prince whom he knows he would be best friends with if they didn't have different social standards to adhere to. Merlin uses his magic for good, and if he sees someone in trouble he won't hesitate to assist them. He is truly as the legends say, a powerful sorcerer in the making.

He's just a bit dim sometimes.

[Specialties/Abilities]
in detail here

Merlin was born with magical abilities that would take a normal sorcerer years and years to master. He can learn spells quickly and by this point can take out various enemies at once. He is particularly good at learning elemental spells and has already mastered the power of life and death. ( naturally in Somarium he might not be able to do as much, if some of the spells at all. and they'll likely be dimmed significantly so he won't be blowing up buildings or defeating a bunch of enemies as easily. ) He won't have his book of spells with him either so learning new ones will likely be difficult or near impossible.

With his natural abilities, even before learning other spells from the books Gaius gave him, Merlin could move objects with his mind, or slow the movement of time around him for brief periods. He also has telekinetic powers that, at this point, have proven to be useful in battle and he can usually push back enemies with the telekinetic blasts. Merlin has recently inherited the title of Dragonlord from his father and with that came even more magical powers. and he is able to command any Dragon to do anything he wishes by speaking to them in their language even if they are a long distance away.

Merlin can create a magical shield around himself for protection. His emotions also tend to effect his magical ability, along with his judgement in most situations. He has a few magical artifacts that assist him in seeing the future, or wielding more powerful magic. But he'll be leaving those in Camelot and thus dimming his powers a bit more.

[Affection]
Guys will probably get a friendly hug or something if they're close to him. Go ahead and kiss him, ladies. Expect awesome reactions if it's unexpected. he's really just a normal dude so he won't be opposed.

[Fighting]
Go ahead and try, but Merlin doesn't really like fighting and will avoid it if he can. He'll also want to use magic and could totally cheat. :V

[Other Permissions]
Go ahead and read his mind and whatever. Feel free to break the 4th wall concerning the actual Merlin, but not anything from the show.

[Other Facts] Just talk to me and I'll likely do anything.
