• Journal: http://magicandpudding.livejournal.com

• Appearance: Luna stands at around 5’4” and is a thin, pale gangly little thing. She has very long dirty blond hair that reaches down to her waist and it’s very straggly / curly in style - often worn loose. She has silvery-grey eyes that always look glazed over and distracted - like she’s gazing off at something over your shoulder far away into the distance.

She has a very dreamy, if not odd appearance - dress wise. She will always be seen wear a pair of radish earrings that she made herself and a Butterbeer cork necklace. When she’s not wearing her school uniform, Luna can be seen wearing bright colours (Usually there’s a meaning behind them) and often looks a little mismatched and odd. She also has a penchant for wool and knitted garments as well as items that tend to shimmer. Shimmery is good. She doesn’t mind what she wears or what anyone thinks of them, her clothes are comfy and pretty.

• Personality: At first, Luna is a very docile and dreamy-looking young girl that often appears to be very weird to others when they first meet her. She has a very calm and serene nature that is very difficult to break her out of. While she may be the subject of ridicule due to her weirdness - she remains unfazed by it. Very little actually bothers her. The only occasion her personality may falter is if someone insults her friends or Father - even then it’s a slight sharper tone to her voice and nothing more.

Having gone through the grieving process herself, Luna is very good at comforting others when they’re upset or afraid. Usually she doesn’t even need the words to do it - but her presence seems to be enough to soothe others. She also handles extremely difficult situations well; it seems that nothing can really get her worked up and she can keep a calm head in even the very worst of situations. And while she may feel sad about some things - it’s rare for her to cry.

She is extremely loyal to her friends and will do all she can for them. Having so few of them means she treasures them. While this may seem like the traits of a Gryffindor, Luna will always be a Ravenclaw deep down. She seems to give of a sense of being wise beyond her years to other people; she is both intelligent and creative and is unusually very perceptive. But she does hold some of the Ravenclaw’s negative traits: she can be blunt and very honest with people to the point that it’s nearly embarrassing - but most people never seem to really mind so much.

• History: Luna is an only child and grew up just outside of Ottery St. Catchpole in Devon, being brought up by her father Xenophilius - editor of magazine The Quibbler - after her mother died. It was something Luna witnessed herself when she was nine years old. Her mother was a very talented Witch and often experimented with spells. However, on one occasion - a spell back-fired and was killed as Luna watched. She is often still sad at the memory, but she knows in her heart that they’ll be together again.

She attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and was sorted into Ravenclaw. Due to her strange nature, she found it hard to make friends and was often the victim of teasing and bullying from the rest of the school - being called ‘Loony’ and having her father’s magazine constantly criticized due to its often bizarre content. Even her housemates would take and hide her things - making her spend the last few days of each school year trying to find everything before she went home. She was never angry at it, though and everything usually turned up in the end.

Over the course of her first three years, she befriended Ginny Weasley and met Harry, Ron, Hermione and Neville during her fourth year. It was also during this school year that she joined Dumbledore’s Army - led by Harry - and enjoyed both bettering her magical abilities and having company and friends. She probably became closest to Harry first during this year - their current statues as social outcasts in the school helping them bond as well as Luna being amongst the few whole believed Harry about Voldemort’s return. She even helped him with an interview in The Quibbler about it- a deed that helped cement her friendship with the others. She later helped Harry once more and took part in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries - fiercely protecting Ron and Ginny when they were injured. Her participation in this helped solidify her friendships with the others and although they thought her as a little weird, they thought of her as a dear friend.

After spending the summer in Sweden with her father, Luna was disappointed that Dumbledore’s Army had disbanded when returning to Hogwarts for her fifth year - but still remained close to her new-found friends: she comforted Hermione during her difficult relationship period with Ron, attended Professor Slughorn’s Christmas Party with Harry and even commentated on a Quidditch match - something that went down extremely well, especially with Ron. She fought alongside her friends once more in the Battle of the Astronomy Tower, one of the few DA members to do so. She was sad when Dumbledore was killed, attending the funeral of the late-Headmaster with the others. And that night, she was rifted from Hogwarts whilst sleepwalking and sent into Chicago.

• Writing Sample: Luna Lovegood was sleep walking. She wore shoes to bed because she does it a lot, and tonight was the exact same as many before. She knows that the floor of the castle corridors can be cold on her bare feet. And she keeps her wand behind her ear, just in case. But as she wanders along a corridor on the fifth floor, a Rift opens up and Luna unknowingly walks through.

When she wakes up and finds herself no longer in Hogwarts Castle. Or not even in the castle grounds. She’s now walking along the streets of Chicago on a bright summer morning.

And for the waking city to see, there is a small blonde girl in her night wear and brightly coloured shoes looking up at the morning sky. She looks amused and confused at the same time, but not entirely bothered by her situation.

“Oh..” she says in her usual dreamy tone, “… I suspect the Nargles.”
