that's the best gift anyway

"Rather than focusing on the absence of material gifts, remember the spirit of the season. Allow us the joy of giving a small token of our feelings for you while we enjoy your participation in our holiday celebration, the joy and peace you bring and the simple pleasure of your company." --this is why i love my sister so very much

That's awesome. This is the first year we're not all buying for each other, mainly because no one is in a financial position to do it. But I've tried for about the last 5 to say "Let's just make a donation to a local charity or a shelter, and buy something small for the kids, and just enjoy having the time to spend together."

Now if we could just get together and do the "and she told two friends ... and SHE told two friends ... and SHE told two friends" thing, maybe the true spirit of the holidays would actually start to show through all the commercial trappings.

It does get very easy to really forget what it IS supposed to be about. I've been such a bah humbug kind of person for a few years now. I just don't have money to spare, y'know. But I am slowly creeping back into the right frame of mind about it all.

Let's just spread the word ourselves. :)
