I agree, especially within the entertainment industry that there's a lot of emphasis on image and public persona, and that fanfiction about such people is really just taking that fictional representation and running with it. Admittedly, I feel somewhat that Asian idols present an image more strongly than Western celebrities, but that may just be because I have no interest whatsoever in Western celebrities to begin with. But in any case, I'm more comfortable with RPF about Asian entertainers. Except when I wind up standing several feet away from them and could converse with them easily alkjhdkh oh Tablo oh Epik High I regret nothing ( ... )

I have no useful comment other than I agree with everything you just said--especially about the Blohyuk. They hang out, yes, but we have not once seen fanservice between them, and well--that boundary you mentioned? That was talking about it on MTS. Just...noooooo.

Speaking of which, need to go do the whole "giving up modship" thing now.

I don't read Suju/SM Family fic at all for one specific reason -- I have very, very specific characterizations in mind, in regard to these guys, and I don't want anyone else's opinions to interfere with that. Because they ARE public personas, we have to/get to fill in the gaps when it comes to things we don't know about them, and I really dislike the idea of someone else's idea of a character interfering with mine in my own head. I'm like that with most of my fandoms, really! I get a character going in my head and I don't want to be told I'm "wrong" in some way, heh.

graymary and me have an epic, years spanning semi AU take on Super Junior that is, for us, basically our "canon." What we see offered in real life, we go, HEE HEE IT MUST BE DUE TO [plot point]. Not, of course, in an actually BELIEVING that capacity, but because that's how we enjoy this fandom -- we have our world, where various people may or may not be involved, and may or may not be various supernatural creatures and international secret agents. And it's very disconnected, ( ... )

♥ I'm glad, I was worried I was coming off preachy and anti fic, which I'm not at all -- I feel like with RPS everyone has their comfort zones in dealing with how they write it or post it or whatever, and just, the stuff we do is SO, SO INVOLVED and so intimately speculative that I just don't ever want any of them to even have the slightest idea. I'd just feel like I was dismissing all their hard work, and the genuine suffering they've endured for their work, and they give ME pleasure by sacrificing their time and energy to perform, so... I figure I should do my best to do right by them. ♥

...I think Eunhyuk would kind of dig that we made him a badass fighter, though. :D
