just went swimming in the phosphorescence again. how can you see that and not believe in a higher being? whether it's "god" or science, the fact there's something there that's worthy and beautiful is irrefutable.

Because I do not consider science to be a higher being.
Scientific uderstanding of a principle takes away its magic, but to me, the understanding is much more important than magic. I'm not much of a romantic.

to me, the understanding is part of the magic, if that makes sense.

Why is it that finding something worthy and beautiful has to mean the existence of a higher being?

i should said higher power and not being. And I guess I just see science as a belief system that can be revered the same way a religion can. It can be put on that same sort of pedestal and deserving of the same kind of awe. I am kind of a romantic to see science that way I guess and forget that some people are just as happy with a less romantic approach to their belief systems. What i could have said that maybe would have been more clear is “how can someone not believe in something after experiencing this?”

fuck those "nihilists." i still can't believe that idiot boy stole my hat.
