Japan!

Jul 24, 2009 09:18

In eight days, I will be boarding a Delta flight to take to Japan, the Land of Silks and Spices and Hello Kitty. I've never been! I'm so thrilled!

August 1 New York
Leave JFK Airport on Delta flight at 11:50 AM

August 2 Tokyo
Arrive in Japan at 2:30-Meet my friend Alexis at the aiprort-go to her apartment in Funabashi-Go out to dinner

August 3 Tokyo
Go take a tour of the Japanese Imperial Palace in the morning, then the Ghibli Museum in the afternoon. Hopefully go to one of those famous theme restaurants like "Jail" or "The Vampire Cafe."

August 4 Tokyo
Go spend the day around the Imperial palace, such as the Diet Building, the controversial Yasukuni Shrine, the Supreme Court, and Hibiya Park. At 6:30, I go see Takarazuka!

August 5 Tokyo
Ueno Zoo (Pandas!), Ueno Park, Tokyo National Museum. This night, I will probably go out with Alexis again.

August 6 Tokyo
Akihabara (the video game district), Edo Tokyo Museum, Kubikicho (the red light district). Another Alexis evening, woot!

August 7 Tokyo
Shinjuku, Shibuya...all of those lovely neighborhoods and say goodbye to Alexis. Not sure else what to do today.

August 8 Tokyo
Asakusa shrine, Asakusa (old downtown Tokyo), and then Ni-Chome (the gay part of Tokyo). Today my actual tour starts, so I bid Alexis goodbye and start traveling with "Inside Japan Tours."

August 9 Tokyo
Ginza, Harajuku, Hamarikyu Tei-En Gardens, a Sumida River Cruise, Meiji Shrine

August 10 Kamakura
The Big Buddha (they have a lot of those), the old town, and just walking about.

August 11-12 Hakone
Sitting in hot springs, looking at Mount Fuji, museums, more shrines, a lake cruise, cable car, and NOT climbing Mt. Fuji (it takes like 8 hours!)

August 13 Osaka
The very bright lights of Osaka. Any more ideas of what I should do here?

August 14 Nara
The Mid Year Lantern Festival at the Kusaga Taisha Shrine, the bowing dear, and the Big Buddha at Todaiji Temple. I also want to see as much as the old capital as I can.

August 15 Kyoto
Still not sure what I will be doing here, but at night I go on a Geisha tour. Is there anything I must see in Kyoto?

August 16 Kyoto
I'll be cruising down Kameoka river to Arashiyama, which is a classy Kyoto district. Here I will go to the Zen Rock Gardens at Ryoanji and the Golden Pavillon, Kinkakuji. At night, I will go see the "Daimonji Bonfire Festival." I'm pretty luck to be in Japsn for two fun festivals.

August 17-18 Takayama
Takayama is a mountain town and contains Hida-Takayama folk village, which has not been updated since 1868. I figure I'll just do whatever the tour wants today.

August 19-20 Kamikochi
Kamikochi is a great big mountain park famous for its monkeys, hot srpings, paths, and barbecues. Today I really want to use an Onsen, see monkeys, enjoy nature, and just relax. I think these two days are the "realx after the mondo vacation days."

August 21 Tokyo
So we head back to Tokyo, on the way stopping off at Matsumoto, where I can see the famous castle. I will be in Tokyo that night, but, to be honest, I can't think of anything else I Tokyo I would want to do except curl up and sleep. After this big long vacation, I have no idea what else there would be to do.

August 22 Tokyo
Today I get up early and make my way from Shinjuku station all the way to Narita airport for my flight at 6:30 PM
