Don nodded to the medical examiner and walked back out into the hallway. He’d seen unsettling things before through his job, but nothing quite like this. This was different.

Colby had wondered off into the bedrooms to root around for clues with the forensic team, leaving him to himself.

Don’s pacing quit when two new people entered the house. The pair immediately drew his attention. Despite wearing suits, they neither blended in nor looked like any federal. It was the air they projected around them as they towards the living room.

He stepped up to intercept. “You guys have some clearance to show?”

The man, taller and with broader shoulder, turned blue eyes briefly on him. “We don’t work for any governmental agency with ABC initials.”

Don narrowed his gaze and hardened his voice. “Homeland, then?” It was the only other plausible idea that entered his mind.

The man’s partner, a woman with dark blonde with tanned skin, gave him a smile and her voice was less patronizing. “Something like that.”

They ignored him in favor of the dead body. Both of their faces drew in and he instantly knew that they recognized whatever the hell this was. His hand touched the side table and a picture of a man in black flashed through his brain. There was no other way to describe it. The glimpse or snapshot or whatever was there and then it wasn’t.

Don jerked his hand back. “Dark hair, tall, black clothes,” he muttered.

“What did you say?” The man quietly asked, voice dangerous as his female partner gave Don a curious look.

The bad feeling was back. “Who are you people?”

“Megan Reeves,” she answered.

The man’s eyes glinted behind horn rimmed glasses. “Noah Bennet. And how do you know about Sylar?”

Don blinked. “Who?”
