Name: James T. Kirk Alias/Codename: Jim Abilities: Training in combat, diplomacy, and years of experience in both as well as leadership. No supernatural abilities--I hear some here have them. Just human, but I have a good command of what I've got. Weapons Experience: Some you probably don't have, but I've got good aim as well as hand-to-hand skills. Shift Preferred: Day preferred, but I'm used to strange schedules. Why You're Applying for the Force: I've been interesting in peacekeeping and order my entire life. Before arriving here, I spent the past nearly two decades are part of an organization devoted to exploration and keeping the peace among a wide variety of peoples. I am driven to helping those in need. While I've only been here a month, the need has become increasingly apparent to me. And while I'm here, I feel the need to alleviate it in whatever manner I can--I feel this is my best opportunity. I work well with others and one might say that the brunt of my experience has been in adapting to the unexpected.
We're in need of someone to head up our tactical response squad. It's, erm... SWAT, I think they call it in America, no idea if it's similar where you're from. The reason I'm mentioning the opening is I don't think the tactical unit need necessarily always run in, guns at the ready, kicking in doors and cracking heads. We call on them for things like hostage negotiations and dangerous situations where a bit of diplomacy wouldn't go amiss. I'd also need a strong leader for that group of officers.
Does something like that interest you? If not, we can find something that's a better fit.
Job's yours if you want it. You can report to me, or to my assistant chief, Mr. Gibbs. He runs the night shift but he's also my right-hand man. We can put you on days with the understanding that we might have to pull you out of bed in the small hours of the morning for situations.
That's fine with me--I've been used to getting up at all hours for awhile.
But, to look a gift horse in the mouth, don't you want something more? I know references aren't going to be forthcoming, but... An interview? It just seems dangerous.
It is dangerous. But I imagine it's no more dangerous than allowing the police force to continue on undermanned, with key positions left open.
Don't misunderstand me. I realize the risk I take with my hiring practices. Someday soon it'll come back and bite me in the arse. But for now I'm doing what I can.
If you want to come in for a formal interview, or an informal chat, by all means, I'd be happy to talk with you. My office is on the fifth floor of police headquarters, come by any time.
If it's all the same, I'd just as soon come in and talk, informal or otherwise, before I officially begin. I accept the position, with gratitude, but I'll do my job better if I have a better understanding for how you work and how the city does.

I'm familiar with the idea. It sounds right up my alley, so to speak.
