Cooking is about the spirit, not the kitchen. Sure, you may not have a potato masher, but you're willing to try, and that's what the last few weeks have shown. You are prepared to cook. It's like writing. You don't just sit around and wait for the muse to come. You grab it by the horns and beat it into submission.
There's one thing wrong with the recipe you made. Well, not the recipe, but the site. Who on earth pays $600 for a pot?
I've pureed soup in a blender! It's not ideal, but it can be made to work... just a little messier than a food processor, perhaps. Make sure everything is fully mushy before you start, and then put some solids in with a bit of liquid (solids alone won't work).
The most important part is to not overload it... it needs more space than is obvious when you start it up. It usually takes me at least 4 sub-batches through the blender / food processor to do a whole pot of soup. Having a second pot or big bowl (or several small bowls, or whatever) to hold the newly pureed soup is fairly necessary, though, since you want to keep them separate.
The blender worked fine for the soup, modulo almost burning off my hands w/ the steam. The issue was making the hummus, pesto, and curry burgers, because they don't have enough liquid to work in a blender. Or something, the bottom got pureed and the top was whole when i set it to chop.
