I actually didn't have different coloured bears... They were all the same Ikea bear that I always use.
For Colossus - I spray painted him silver, as he's technically made of metal, so the softness of the bear wasn't really needed. He turned out a tad crunchy, but awesome still the same.
And for Nightcrawler - I thinned down some acrylic paint and 'washed' his head with numerous coats to give him the blue colour. He turned out much softer than Colossus, but still a bit crustier than the normal bears.
But I did learn something with Nightcrawler though -- do the head painting BEFORE you make the costume that includes white material... heh. I wasn't sure I was going to make him blue, but when I finished his outfit - he really needed the blue head. The paint bled through to the hands and feet and coloured his white a really cool tiedyed blue. I had to then paint his gloves and boots white.... oh well - lesson learned. :)

Maybe try using fabric paints or textile medium mixed 50/50 with acrylic paint? I've always loved the classic Storm costume.
Huggles to the busy bee!
