To make up for that horribly sad fic before.
Footsteps alerted the Seeker to another's presence, but he didn't move. He knew this mech. "Back again?" he asked, something almost like fondness in his tone.
"Obviously," the approaching mech answered. He paused for a moment, then sat next to Starscream. "They're still not sure how to react."
"Skywarp only told the truth. I guess the commanders of the time did realize they were doing something wrong, then, if they hid their actions. But still. None of you knew?" Starscream asked, glancing at Red Alert now that the other was close enough.
"None of us," Red Alert affirmed.
Silence fell between the two mechs for a short time, and then Starscream asked, "How are they doing?" He didn't know why he cared about a bunch of Autobots... He didn't, but he did care about Red Alert, for some reason. Or maybe he just wanted the war over, and it almost didn't matter how.
Red Alert didn't answer right away. "Smokescreen drank more high-grade for a while. Then Jazz convinced him it wasn't his fault. He's doing okay, I suppose. Hound seems to have decided the same thing. Optimus is going over all the old reports, and the scientists and medics are also looking up information. Mirage..."
Waiting for Red Alert to finish the sentence prove futile. After a couple of breems, Starscream finally prompted, "Mirage? What about the spy?"
"He's... really not doing well. He- You may have guessed, but he was the one who actually found Shockwave with the bitlet. And- Well, now that he knows how the research was done- Mirage is very nearly to the point of deactivation. He's not going to self-deactivate, we think, if only because he can't, but..."
Starscream couldn't stop the growl, of course Mirage had been the one... Logic insisted that the spy hadn't known better, none of them had. It helped that Shockwave would have been fine, even if the Autobots had kept him. "What do you expect us to do about it?"
"It might help if he could make... I'm not sure, some kind of amends," Red Alert answered. He wasn't watching Starscream, neither of them were really looking at the other, and so he wasn't sure how the Seeker would react.
"Amends..." Starscream echoed. As crazy as it was, he did have an idea. Mirage might not like it very much... but wasn't that the point of making amends? "Let me talk to my mates. He might just be able to do that. If nothing else, tell him it's up to us to decide if he deserves to deactivate or not."
"I'll do that," Red Alert agreed. The two mechs stood, and Starscream turned to face the Autobot, a questioning look on his faceplates, making a motion with his shoulder. Red Alert thought a moment, then nodded. "Yes, please."
Starscream didn't hesitate this time, shooting the other mech in the face with his null-rays and then flying away.
Yeah. It was supposed to end the fic. But no... Mew.
