I doubt three points will affect your insurance too much, though I do not know. Back in May I got my first ever traffic ticket, a speeding ticket, I was going 79 in a 55 (fuckin' 94 around Jackson SUCKS). The officer marked me as going 10 over because I had never received a ticket before. I don't think it affected my insurance for much, if even at all. But then again, I don't know about supposedly "running a red light." That is poopy though Brian, I'm sorry, and I love you.
I've had heaps of tickets and even had my license pulled! Three points won't mess with your insurance and it'll automatically drop off your record in either two or three years (depending on who you have for insurance), no biggie. You're fine, unless you go on a law-breaking spree to garner up another 9 points. That's when you're in trouble.
also, check to see if there is any kind of class (even online ones) that you take and it automatically knocks the points off as long as you pass the easy-ass test at the end.
I did this when I got into an accident a long time ago. I took an online test and *poof* the points were gone.
