RIP, Ed Bradley

Nov 09, 2006 13:24

Ed Bradley has died of leukemia at the age of 65.

I had no idea he was that ill. Was he keeping it fairly secret or was I totally oblivious?

I didn't even realize he was sick either -- wow. And so young, too! :(

Apparently most people had no idea and he kept it pretty well under wraps.

He was still doing stories on 60 Minutes right up until the end. I thought I saw him recently on the show, which is why I was so shocked at the news.

I didn't realize he was sick either. So very sad. He was an amazing guy and this feels like another in the last of the old school, "real" journalists that are all but gone. ::slumps::

It's funny that you refer to him as "old school" when he was considered the "young hipster" on 60 Minutes, what with his earring and all. Heh.

But you're right, it does seem like an era is passing in journalism. Mike Wallace stubbornly refuses to give up that easily. ;)

Yeah, it was weird. I get breaking news e-mails from CNN, and I was on the phone with my mom when I got one about this. I mentioned it to her, and we were both really surprised. He was still so young.

I was shocked too when I heard. He was my favorite correspondent on 60 Minutes and I loved his earring (didn't he get it pierced with a famous actor who he was close friends with - Harrison Ford maybe?)

Between he and Peter Jennings, all of my favorite newsmen are dying and it makes me sad.
