BSG on the Big Screen

Dec 06, 2006 21:06

I'm very out of the loop lately and I'm days behind on LJ, but just in case any BSG fans out there didn't know about this already:

See Battlestar Galactica on the big screenEpisode 10 "The Eye of Jupiter" is playing in theaters in six cities around the country next Thursday December 14, one day before it airs on TV ( Read more... )

I adored Unfinished Business and Katee Sackhoff is a goddess.

Me too and yes she is. :)

I have like 50 things I'm supposed to be doing right now, but I need to go find a Starbuck icon instead.

I'm sure that a lot of people just hate Kara now more than ever, but I LOVE her. Yes, she's got issues. No, I probably wouldn't like her much if I knew her in real life. But boy, she makes for good TV. And Katee Sackhoff is all kinds of great.

She sure is. I'm always interested in watching Kara, even though I don't necessarily like her, or find her decisions admirable in any way. But I like following her storyline. The same holds true for most of the other characters, even those that aren't really well liked, like the Tighs. I'm even interested in the Cylons, even though their plotline often is a little too purposefully "alien" for my taste. But as a species that's at a fairly early developmental state psychologically and emotionally, they are certainly fascinating to watch.

Not being in fandom much, I was actually astonished that this episode seems to have divided it into camps - I'm not a shipper, nor a boxing fan, yet I enjoyed it immensely. I mean, Roslin and Adama smoking weed and drinking and hanging out? Who would have

I know! [/monica]

I loved it so much and assumed that most people did, too, but I read a handful of comments on one board (not TwoP) with many people saying they hated it and BSG "jumped the shark" and K/L is boring and a "retcon" (huh?) and stuff like that. So I avoided the episode thread at TwoP b/c I don't want anyone harshing my mellow. ;)

People watch BSG for a variety of reasons and this episode was all about the characters and relationships. For people who like that (like me) it was a goldmine. Imho. It may be one of my favorite BSG eps ever b/c it filled in so many holes and questions.

Agreed. I thought it was necessary, especially to see that they actually were building up some sort of life on New Caprica. That they were happy in some way before the Cylons came back. It made me understand the genocide decision from a few episodes back (...3.07? I'm blanking out on the name) a tiny bit better, even though I still cannot condone it in any way. (That is an interesting phenomenon about BSG as well - they can do an episode that makes me rage at almost all main characters involved - and these are all characters I love - and yet still make me want to come back to follow their story. See also "The Circle.")

And besides, it gave them the chance to have Kate Vernon around some more, and did I really see Duckie in one scene? The guy who blew himself up at the end of the third season premiere? That's just all kinds of awesome. Alas, I'm rambling in your journal, so I'll stop. :)

I only dislike characters that are boring, badly acted, or annoying, and she is neither to me. I LOVE to watch her. I'm angry at her sometimes (well, really only when she went after Gaeta -- bitch!), I cry for her sometimes, but she is NEVER boring, annoying, or badly acted. I will continue to love her.

And, oh yeah, the hugging at the end of that episode surprised me (in an episode where I didn't expect there to be any surprises) and made me cry --- and it was awesome.

I'm angry at her a LOT. She's frequently wrong, spiteful, selfish, inconsiderate, and downright cruel. But I love her anyway.

Or more likely, I love her because of it. She's interesting, believable and very REAL to me. And Katee plays the hell out of her.

Okay, yeah. I'm often agnry with her. But the only time I had to restrain myself from throwing shoes at her was when she was hurting sweet Mr. Gaeta.

I, sadly, have become drawn into the sciffy board. And they have the strangest views on Kara. She's either too flawed or not enough.

The fan reactions to Kara really do stretch across the spectrum, don't they?

I frequent another board and I've seen lots of "Kara is a skank" and "Kara is worthless" and I just have to bite my tongue. Er, I guess that metaphor doesn't really work re: the keyboard, but whatever. I refrain from arguing about it. ;)

I signed up for tickets, but I haven't yet decided whether I'll go. I always feel awkward outing my geekiness so publicly. ;)

I have some "Unfinished Business" icons here, and syliasyliasylia always makes gorgeous ones!

If you decide to go, e-mail me b/c I would love to meet you if we are both going.

I am willing to embrace my BSG geekdom, but I would probably go alone, because embracing doesn't mean announcing to everyone I know. ;)

Oh, I'll probably go. How can I resist seeing it on the big screen? :) If/when we get tickets, I'll definitely get in touch.

I don't know if I will be able to go b/c of work, but the theater is very convenient for me, so I figured that was a sign I was supposed to go if I got tickets. ;)

I LOVE MY NEW ICONS.

I didn't like the ep. I didn't like the admiral and chief fighting and I didn't like the back story of how/why the couples got married. At one point I even turned it off and walked away for a couple of days. It was painful without any real reason, other than pain, imo. (unlike the awesomeness of when we learned Casey wasn't hers.) I feel like some of Anders's lines (about her not really wanting to be with him) were just cheap and beneath the show.

Oh, okay! :)

You're definitely not alone in your opinion. I will have to watch it again and think about your comments. Yes, it was painful, but it explained so much I thought. I want to know what happened during that missing year, and I was glad to get some of it back.
