The Devil is Beating His Wife

Apr 26, 2006 20:08

I had such fun with that! Thank you so much to all of those who took my poll/quiz/whatchamacallit. I was really impressed with how many did it. ♥

Before reading further, if you haven't taken it, please go here to do so.

The answer... drum roll please... )

lost, polls, work

I tried what seems most logical, but it was of course wrong. Now I'm reading the explanation, I couldn't have possibly thought of this!

This is just great! I'll show off to my friends. *cackles*

Thanks! :D

Actually that was a trick question. There is another Americanism that we say called "beating a dead horse" which is basically something similar to being redundant. You might have heard that somewhere and I wonder if you had that in the back of your mind. Still though, you did fine Lina!

That was cute! I'm going to Southern-ize you. :D

I know of the "beating a dead horse" expression, but curiously, I didn't even think of it. :P

I chose the redundunt option because I thought, hey, it's the devil, it's no surprise that he'd beat his wife. LOL.

I think I'll eventually get used to it, but I'm not sure if the boredom is temporary. I'll just have to find something to do. The unit might be the most organized it's ever been by the time I'm done. :P

I actually had a very good friend in Alaska who was an agency travel nurse. She loved it and traveled all over the world. I'm not sure though what agency she was with. I'll look into that and see if I can come up with a good reputable company. That's a great thing for young nurses with no children or husband! I would've loved to have done that, but I was both married and pregnant when I graduated nursing school.

Lost was great! I love Peter Coyote, he was the narrator. :)

Congrats on starting the new job. Getting paid to read books isn't necessarily a bad thing. :)

Growing up in the Midwest we did use the expression "The devil must be beating his wife" when there was sun and rain at the same time.

It's definitely a change for me. For the past several years I've basically worked in Nursing Admin, so I've been a paper pusher. The paperwork in this job is just enormous and there is no catching up. There is always something to do, so the reading is going to surely be a welcome change. :)

So you did hear it in the Midwest? I was wondering about you. I know that you moved South last year, so I wondered if that's where you picked it up. That's rather interesting because I see that a lot of Midwesterners on my flist didn't know. I've really loved seeing this.

Never heard that saying, but now I know it and can say I heard it from a very wise friend:)
I'm glad work is going good!

I was really surprised that you hadn't heard it, but I do see that a lot of my Southern friends hadn't heard of it either.

How are you feeling? I hope you're feeling better. You were missed! ♥

I'd heard the expression somewhere, I think. When I looked at your quiz, I knew the answer, but I'm not sure how. Maybe I heard it from you? I've had many other friends from the south over the years, so if it wasn't from you I might have heard it from one of them.

Zulu must be very pretty, then. Mickey's the prettiest cat in the world. And if you don't believe me, just ask her. *grin*
